King's Hawthornes recognised for more than Academic Excellence

Back

We are pleased to announce that following a recent inspection by Ofsted, King's Leadership Academy Hawthornes has achieved a "Good" rating. This is a testament to the academy's commitment to providing a well-rounded education for all of its students.

Inspectors acknowledged the improvements in educational quality, leading to better outcomes in national tests across various subjects. The school is particularly proud of the increasing number of students who continue their academic studies after leaving Hawthornes, a result of a thoughtful programme that informs both students and parents about future course and career options.

At King's Hawthornes, we firmly believe that our success goes beyond mere exam results. While academic achievements are important, we are not an 'exam factory'. Our primary aim, is to develop the whole child, preparing them to become successful citizens. This approach has been instrumental in our success and noted by Ofsted.

Our dedicated teachers regularly assess students' understanding and knowledge, enabling them to address learning gaps effectively. This structured approach to teaching allows students to make meaningful connections in their learning journey.

The report also recognises our commitment to supporting Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) students. These students follow the same curriculum as their peers and receive excellent support to obtain the qualifications they need for their future education or training.

Additionally, our students' behaviour was also commended as they embody our ASPIRE values, embracing qualities such as aspiration, achievement, self-awareness, professionalism, integrity, respect, and endeavour. Extracurricular activities offer students numerous opportunities for personal development or to take on leadership roles within our school community.

Principal Peter Gaul expressed his pride in the many achievements of the academy, emphasising that a "Good" rating is a result of hard work and dedication from our entire school community. He particularly highlighted the report's mention that "the school prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain” and the fact that “pupils embrace the school’s ASPIRE values and ethos.”

King's Hawthornes is part of the Great Schools Trust, CEO Shane Ierston said he was very proud of King’s Hawthornes at all levels and believes this outcome reflects the values held by the Trust and the opportunities provided to our students.

As we continue to grow and thrive, we are excited to announce the opening of King's Leadership Academy Wavertree, a new 11–16 secondary school, in September 2024. This expansion will help meet the high demand for school places in Liverpool and provide more students with access to the quality education we offer.
